Keisha: ‘We Need to Take a Pause on New Construction and Reassess Where We Are’

Keisha Also Called Out Slick Rick Jackson’s Opposition to Medicaid Expansion

Columbus, Ga. — Last week, Democratic gubernatorial nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms sat down with WRBL’s Chuck Williams, where she called out Slick Rick Jackson for profiting off of data centers, while reiterating her plan for a pause on the new construction of data centers to prevent Georgians’ utility bills from rising. 

During the interview, Keisha also called out Slick Rick Jackson for saying Georgia does not need to expand Medicaid, even as hundreds of thousands of Georgians go without health care and rural hospitals close.

“My position is that we need to pause on new construction of data centers. There is too much out there that is of concern to people about the impact on our environment, on our utility costs. Just about what the long term impact will be. We are amongst the highest in the country in terms of states, in terms of building data centers,” Keisha said.

“This is a guy who invests in this. So how can you possibly trust him on data centers when he's making money from data centers as an investor? We need to pause.”

“The concerns that I'm hearing are real. People are saying ‘I'm concerned about my rising utility costs, I am concerned about the impact on the environment, I am concerned that my water supply in my community will be diminished if we move forward.’ We need to take a pause on new construction and reassess where we are. Let's get everybody at the table, have a comprehensive conversation with those who are building data centers, the experts, the environmental experts, our community leaders. Let's have a conversation and then determine what our path forward should be in this state.” Keisha continued.

“The facts are, he said he wants to be Trump's favorite governor, he wants to be Trump with a southern tone. There's not a single policy that he disagrees with Trump on. He even said, right here in this chair the lack of Medicaid expansion isn't as bad as people think that it is. This guy is extreme in every single way.”
