WATCH: On ‘The Last Word,’ Keisha Lance Bottoms Highlights Her Focus on Expanding Medicaid

ATLANTA — On Thursday, Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms appeared on MSNOW’s The Last Word to discuss her plans to focus on expanding Medicaid and lowering costs.

“As we are moving around the state, the affordability crisis that we are facing is still very real. It's been the number one topic that's come up throughout this campaign. People are complaining about the cost of gas, the cost of groceries, the cost of housing. Health care is a huge issue,” Keisha said. “I'm running against a billionaire who [...] doesn't want to expand Medicaid as nine rural hospitals closed in this state. So the issues are very real.”

“I’m listening to Rick Jackson. I believe him when he says he wants to be Trump's favorite governor,” Keisha continued. “He said he doesn't disagree with any policies coming out of the Trump White House. So when he talks about being the favorite governor, that's the favorite governor of a guy [...] who's cut from health care in our state, from housing in our state.”

“One of the first things I really believe that we can get done in a bipartisan way is to expand Medicaid in this state,” Keisha said. “Since the Big Ugly Bill in January, we have seen 500,000 people in Georgia drop their health care [coverage]. It's impacting everything. It impacts our ability to attract businesses into this state. Obviously, it impacts our ability to provide adequate health care for people.”
