Keisha Lance Bottoms: Relief on Gas Prices is Overdue and Rick Jackson Has Said Nothing for Months

ATLANTA — Today, one week after Democratic gubernatorial nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms called for a suspension of the diesel tax, Governor Brian Kemp took action to suspend the gas tax including diesel. Republican nominee Rick Jackson – who is ducking debates and interviews – has remained quiet for the past week on the topic.

“Georgians are finally getting long-overdue relief at the gas pump. I am glad my call to suspend the gas tax has been heard,” said Keisha. “For millions of Georgians, including our farmers, small businesses, and working families, this relief should have come long ago. While I called for suspending the gas tax to put more money back into Georgians’ pockets, Slick Rick Jackson endorsed reinstating the gas tax over the summer, calling it the ‘prudent’ thing to do.

“The people of Georgia deserve a governor focused on making life more affordable and serving them — not on pleasing Donald Trump.”

In June, Keisha called for a pause on the gas tax to provide relief for Georgia families.

Last week, Slick Rick Jackson refused to criticize Trump’s policies that are driving up prices on diesel and other agricultural goods, saying “I am not going to be blaming the federal government for everything.” This comes after he said he didn’t disagree with a single policy coming from this White House. Previously, Slick Rick has also agreed with Governor Kemp reinstating the gas tax calling it the “right, prudent thing to do.”
