Bottoms: ‘Burt Jones and Rick Jackson Have Spent Their Lives Enriching Themselves and Are Running for Governor to Do Just That. I'll Be A Governor Who Will Always Fight for You’
ATLANTA — Following her decisive victory in last night’s primary election, Democratic gubernatorial nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms delivered remarks highlighting her plans to stand up for Georgians as Republican candidates compete for Trump’s attention.
Read Below for Excerpts from Bottoms’ Remarks:
“I could not rest, knowing that people across this state needed someone to stand in the gap and fight on their behalf and Georgians sent a clear message tonight: that they want a fighter,” said Bottoms. “Someone who will stand up to Donald Trump and all of the chaos that’s raising costs, that’s hurt our economy, that threatens the rights that generations before us fought for and died for.”

Bottoms continued, “Let's be clear, the only people, Burt Jones and Rick Jackson, have fought for are themselves. Their campaigns are not about Georgia. They are not waking up every single day thinking about the challenges that our families are facing across the state, and how to take them on. And they certainly do not see Donald Trump as someone to stand up to. No, they want to be like him.”
“No matter who emerges from their run off, the choice this November will be clear. Burt Jones and Rick Jackson have spent their lives enriching themselves and are running for governor to do just that. I'll be a governor who will always fight for you,” Bottoms said.

“I am going to spend every day through November talking about my plans to make sure every Georgian has an opportunity to succeed. It means stopping Donald Trump every time his policies hurt Georgia, and also taking action here to make life better for people across the state. It means that we must expand Medicaid in this state, making sure that everybody has access to health care,” Bottoms continued. “It means going to fight to lower costs in this state and ensure that families can afford to buy a home or rent a home. It means we gotta crack down on corporate landlords. It means that we are going to invest in our children's education from day one, working to make sure that pre-k is available to every four year old in this state.”
“It means supporting our educators by raising their starting pay and eliminating their state income tax. We are going to support our veterans in state to stand up for us each and every day. It means we are going to use every single tool that we have in our toolbox to protect the fundamental right to vote, and to ensure that every voice in Georgia is heard. Georgia is the cradle of the civil rights movement, and we will not allow the state to go back.” Bottoms said.
