Mayor Bottoms Slams Congressional Republicans for Passing Trump’s Bill to Rip Health Care Away From Georgia Families
ATLANTA — Keisha Lance Bottoms, former Mayor of Atlanta and Democratic candidate for Governor of Georgia, issued the statement below after Congress passed President Trump’s budget bill to rip health care away from millions:
“This disastrous bill is exactly what’s wrong with Washington under Donald Trump — and it shows why we need strong state leadership that will stand up for Georgians. The bill that Congress passed today is nothing less than an all-out assault on Medicaid, grocery assistance, and clean energy manufacturing jobs —critical programs that literally keep Georgians alive and employed. It will mean that 17 million Americans - and nearly 700,000 Georgians - will lose health coverage, and our rural hospitals are at risk of more closures.
“Georgians deserve a governor who will stand up to reckless ideas and make health care more affordable and accessible. As governor I’ll make health care my top priority. On Day One I’ll move to expand Medicaid, protect our rural hospitals, and block any policy—red or blue—that hurts the people of this state. It’s clear that whoever wins the Republican nomination for governor will put their loyalty to Donald Trump ahead of Georgians’ health care and affordability. With damaging policy coming out of Washington, we need a governor who’ll put Georgians first.”
