Bottoms: ‘I'm not running for governor to be Donald Trump; I'm running to stand up to him’
ATLANTA — Days ahead of the May 19 Democratic gubernatorial primary, Keisha Lance Bottoms released a new TV ad in her campaign for governor, directly taking on Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and Rick Jackson for fighting over Donald Trump’s affection.
The ad features “Jackson” and “Jones” – and, of course, a donkey.
“It's embarrassing,” Bottoms says of the GOP primary. “I'm Keisha Lance Bottoms and unlike some people, I'm not running for governor to be Donald Trump; I'm running to stand up to him. To expand Medicaid, guarantee pre-K for all kids, and lower taxes for working families.”
Bottoms has repeatedly called out Donald Trump’s actions as they threaten Georgians’ jobs, cost Georgians their healthcare coverage, and hurt Georgia’s agriculture and port industry.

KEISHA LANCE BOTTOMS: “It's embarrassing. I'm Keisha Lance Bottoms and unlike some people, I'm not running for governor to be Donald Trump; I'm running to stand up to him.
To expand Medicaid.
Guarantee pre-K for all kids.
And lower taxes for working families.
This may be funny, but what you're going through is not. Let's do something about it.”
Background
Bottoms released the first TV ad in her campaign for governor in April where she takes on Trump and highlights her plans as governor.
As governor, Keisha Lance Bottoms will lower costs, expand access to affordable healthcare, invest in education and stand up to Donald Trump’s chaos as it hurts Georgia.
On Wednesday, Bottoms announced her Democracy First Agenda, a plan to make Georgia a national leader in protecting voting rights. Her plan will establish new protections for voting rights at the state level, protect election workers, restore trust in election administration, and expand voting access for eligible Georgians.
Last month, she announced plans to lower health care costs and invest in Georgians’ education. Earlier this month, she announced her CARE Plan for a Healthier Georgia which will expand Medicaid, protect rural hospitals, and prevent Georgians who rely on the ACA from losing health care coverage by pursuing targeted premium support.
Bottoms also recently announced her plan to guarantee pre-K access to every 4-year old in Georgia and require full-day kindergarten for Georgia students.
She previously served as the 60th mayor of Atlanta from 2018 to 2022 where she made major investments in affordable housing, delivered historic pay raises for police officers and firefighters, supported small businesses, and brought in billions in capital investment.
Bottoms is at least a fifth generation Georgian and has served as a judge and city councilwoman. She resides in Atlanta with her husband, Derek, and their four children.
