Bottoms Opposes Trump’s Beef Import Plan Hurting Georgia Cattle Producers

Keisha: ‘While Donald Trump is Selling Out Our State's Top Industries, Rick Jackson Refuses to Stand Up to Him’

ATLANTA —Democratic gubernatorial nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms today condemned Donald Trump's proposed new plan to import 660 million pounds of ground beef over the next 90 days.  Bottoms challenged Rick Jackson to join her in standing up for Georgia producers against the decision from President Trump in Washington.

Beef is one of Georgia's top agricultural commodities, generating $1.2 billion per year for the Georgia economy from 15,000 producers spread across the state. The Georgia Cattlemen’s Association criticized the executive order over the weekend, saying, “this decision will only cause disruptions in the live cattle market at a time when many Georgia producers are getting ready to market their calves.” 

“Georgia’s cattle producers power our agriculture economy and provide food for our state and our country,” Keisha said. “I stand with Georgia producers against Donald Trump's reckless plan to flood the market with imported beef. 

“And while Donald Trump is selling out our state's top industries, Rick Jackson refuses to stand up to him — even as cattle producers ring the alarm. I encourage Rick to join me in a bipartisan stance against this damaging policy for our producers. As governor, I will be focused on growing Georgia's economy, protecting our most important industries, and I will never be afraid to stand up to anyone on behalf of Georgians.”
