PRESS RELEASE

ICYMI: Keisha Campaigns in Thomasville, Valdosta, and Savannah, While Jackson Stands with Trump

ATLANTA — This weekend, Democratic gubernatorial nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms campaigned in Thomasville, Valdosta, and Savannah to encourage Georgians to make their voices heard and cast their ballots during in person early voting in Georgia.

From farms to barbershops, Bottoms spent her weekend campaigning in South and Coastal Georgia – while Slick Rick Jackson changed his campaign schedule to stand with Donald Trump this weekend.

Read Below For What Georgians Are Saying:

THOMASVILLE

WTXL:

  • South Georgia neighbors are getting the chance to hear directly from gubernatorial candidates about how they plan to improve rural communities like ours.

  • Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms made a stop in Thomasville during her campaign trail. Neighbors gathered Friday to hear directly from Bottoms about her plans for the future of rural Georgia if elected.

  • Voters I spoke with say they want to see…housing costs lowered, and more resources for small farm owners.

VALDOSTA

Valdosta Daily Times: Bottoms, other candidates urge Democrats to vote

  • About 120 people showed up to hear from gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms…

  • Bottoms was the big draw.

  • After greeting her supporters, Bottoms launched into her policy plans. First up was health care.

  • She pointed out nine rural hospitals have closed in the last several years. She told of a pregnant woman in Jesup who had to drive an hour and 15 minutes for ob/gyn care.

  • She called Georgia Pathways — the state’s attempt to provide health insurance to people who don’t qualify for Medicaid — “a complete disaster.” It’s cost the state millions of dollars, she said, but has enrolled only a few thousand people.

  • Bottoms said the state’s strict abortion law has prevented doctors from treating miscarriages. She said she spoke with a doctor who told her he’d delayed treating a woman during a miscarriage for 24 hours because he was afraid he could go to jail for aborting the dying fetus.

  • Bottoms promised to fully fund education. She said the state’s formula for funding schools was established in 1985 and should be updated, but she said the legislature has fully funded the existing formula only three times since it was enacted.

  • In particular, she wants to fully fund the state prekindergarten program for 4-year-olds, then start working on a program for 3-year-olds

  • Like many other Republican candidates, Jackson has at times tied himself closely with President Trump, but more recently has given himself some distance from him. He initially said he would be campaigning elsewhere when Trump rallies Republican voters in Perry this weekend. On Friday, his campaign announced that he would appear with Trump instead.

  • Bottoms cited the change in plans as evidence Jackson is a “puppet of Donald Trump.”

  • “When I hear my opponent say he wants to be Trump’s favorite governor, I think about whose favorite governor I want to be,” she said. “I want to be your favorite governor.”

SAVANNAH

WTOC: Bottoms campaigns in Savannah, urges voters to get out and vote

  • The former Atlanta mayor said it was good to be back in Savannah campaigning for the Coastal Empire’s support. Bottoms had one message: get out and vote.

  • “Let’s make sure that our voices are reflected in our votes, it has always been the most powerful weapon that we have,” Bottoms said.

  • Bottoms was welcomed into the room with applause from her supporters.
