Keisha Lance Bottoms for Georgia Governor

PRESS RELEASE

Keisha Lance Bottoms Receives Endorsement from Georgia AFL-CIO

Georgia AFL-CIO Represents Georgia Workers Across Manufacturing, Transportation, Education, Health Care, and Public Sectors

ATLANTA — The Georgia AFL-CIO has endorsed Keisha Lance Bottoms in her campaign to serve as the next governor of Georgia, highlighting her plans to deliver for working families by lowering costs, expanding access to affordable health care, and investing in education by expanding opportunities for apprenticeships and worker training programs.

Georgia AFL-CIO represents 500,000 workers and retirees across Georgia in critical industries, including manufacturing, transportation, education, health care, and the public sector.

“Keisha is committed to showing up for working families across Georgia and understands how important the freedom to organize is for growing our economy so it works for everyone, not just a select few,” said Georgia AFL-CIO President Yvonne T. Brooks. “From advocating for the right to collectively bargain, so we can secure fair wages and safe working conditions, to championing healthcare and retirement security, Keisha recognizes the challenges faced by working families, Georgia’s labor movement is ready to fight alongside her to build a just economy for all workers.”

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Georgia AFL-CIO. Georgia’s workers are the backbone of our state and our economy. At a time when the Trump Administration is rolling back worker protections, Georgians need a governor who will always stand up for working people” said Keisha. “As governor, I will expand Medicaid and access to affordable health care, protect workers’ rights, and fight to ensure that every Georgian can earn a wage that allows them to support themselves and their families.”

Keisha has consistently centered working families at the heart of her campaign for governor. Earlier this year, she announced plans to lower health care costs and invest in Georgians’ education. Recently she announced her CARE Plan for a Healthier Georgia which will expand Medicaid, protect rural hospitals, and invest in recruiting and retaining more health care workers. Bottoms also announced her plan to guarantee pre-K access to every four-year old in Georgia and require full-day kindergarten for Georgia students.

This week, Keisha announced her plan to bring down costs by giving localities the option to eliminate or temporarily suspend local sales taxes on qualifying groceries and family essentials.
