Environment and Health
Keisha knows that a thriving Georgia starts with clean water, healthy air, and communities that have access to real healthcare. She took that fight to Congress, protected Georgia's natural resources from corporate interests, and made history by putting public health at the center of how Atlanta is governed.
• Advanced Clean Energy Atlanta, a citywide vision for a 100% clean energy future by 2035, and established a Clean Energy Advisory Board to help drive implementation, reduce emissions, and lower long-term energy costs.
• Protected Georgia’s natural resources by successfully stopping a fuel terminal near the Chattahoochee River and supporting preservation of the Chattahoochee Brick property, helping pave the way for a 75-acre park and expanded green space.
• Treated climate change as a real governing challenge by testifying before Congress on its impact on Atlanta, raising alarms about flooding, extreme heat, and tree canopy loss, and cutting city emissions through operational improvements that reduced fuel use and pollution.
• Opened Westside Park and its reservoir, increasing Atlanta’s emergency water supply from just a few days to roughly 90 days.
• Appointed Atlanta’s first Chief Health Officer to better coordinate the city’s response to chronic disease, asthma, HIV, and other public health challenges.
• Made the first direct city investment in HIV prevention and expanded access to PrEP, recognizing the connection between prevention, community wellness, and stronger neighborhoods.
